It happened overnight

Something has happened to my little girl during the last two weeks and I’m quite uncomfortable with it. In fact, I’m downright upset about it. Sometime in the last week or so, Sophia turned into a big girl.

Seriously.

It happened so suddenly that I’m not really sure how to react to it. It started about two weeks ago when Jon and I were taking the kids to daycare. Sophia was sitting in her car seat singing the alphabet song. During the second or third round, she stopped at about H and said, and I quote, “Come on guys, sing with me!” Like two soldiers called to attention, we started singing. Of course, unlike real soldiers we were laughing so hard we could barely get through the song.

That was the beginning. Every day since she has been more and more of a big girl I can hardly stand it. The things that come out of her mouth are almost always a shock to me. Like the other day when I picked her up at school, she yelled at me, “I walk, Mommy.”

“Ashley (a girl in her class, I presume) when poopy on the potty, Mommy.”

“My belly hurt.”

“I hot.”

“I do it.”

“Carry, Mommy.”

“I want cookie.”

I could go on and on, but I won’t, I promise, it’s just that her vocabulary has practically quadrupled in the last two weeks.

Not only have her words changed, but her actions have changed as well. The other night, she asked to watch Elmo’s Potty Time and I told her she could watch it if she sat on the potty first. “OK, Mommy.” With that, she jumped up off the floor and walked herself to the potty. I put her on it and she actually went on the potty. No joke. Of course, after that she didn’t want her diaper back on so we put her in her little Elmo undies and she spent the rest of the evening eagerly sitting on the potty every half hour until bedtime.

Freaking insane.

I feel like her whole demeanor has changed. Looking at her face, I can see she’s quickly loosing her baby features. Looking at her the other day, my thoughts were of how beautiful she is, not how cute my little baby was. It seems like it was only last month that my little Sophia was just a baby and now, suddenly, she is a big kid.

Thankfully, while Sophia is starting her metamorphous into a big kid, I have a couple more months of baby left with Ryan.

It's always a little sad to watch them change but exciting as well! I've been watching Autumn change from a child into a teen. And sometimes I get a glimpse of the person she will become. Enjoy every moment.

It is scary, cause it reminds you of how time's passing. My sister's son is just two months old and he's turning over and making nonesense sounds. It seems like he was just born. I'm so taken aback cause I thought babies would stay babies for a while.

He's rolling over at 2 months! Now that's amazing. You're sister must be freaking out.

No, babies don't stay babies for very long, despite how hard we try to keep them little.

It is so bittersweet when they make those leaps from baby to toddler, toddler to kid, kid to OMFG she is old enough to have s*x legally!

They just grow up overnight you're totally right.

With no warning and when you're least expecting it.

Bittersweet!

She is losing that baby look. Just wait until she loses the toddler/little kid look. I often hear "wow, he looks like a young man now." And I agree. Makes you realize time does fly.

Ooohh...I know that it'll be bittersweet when Isabella starts talking. I think when that happens it will be time for us to have another baby. They just grow up way too quickly!

Yay Sophia on the pottying though. It's tough isn't it. Wait until they start morphing into womanhood. We're dealing with that and trying to explain to your 9 year old that she can't wear that shirt anymore because she's changing is not easy I tell you ;).

It's so much fun to watch them grow up, but there's always that pang in a mom's heart to see the baby go. Here's to some great times ahead!
